A popular class in MMOs is the “Engineer” or Mechanical class. Usually employing gunfire of some kind. GW2, Wow, and Tera all have Engineer or Gunner classes. One of the fetishes for these classes is a big gun. Well, for the Aion Aethertech class, the gun is bigger than all the rest.
This Mech is not a mount, but actually the weapon for this class.
It flies, and glides and when you “Disembark” you are carrying a CypherKey, which only allows you to “Embark” to ride your Mech. The Mech skills include punches, rockets and rocket powered fists. And this is all out of the box at level 10.
Tera Gunner, eat your heart out. My “Gun” is bigger than yours.
What About Smaller Guns?
Aion characters can be tall or short. Small characters are about 1/2 the height of tall ones. I wondered what would happen to the mech size for a smaller character. So I created a smaller character to find out. Sort of like a Tera Elin Gunner class. Here is the character creation, preview of some of the mech shapes and a comparison of the character with a typical NPC.
After using a pistol to level up to level 9, you can Ascend and choose “Aethertech” as your next class. Here are some pictures of the small character and her Mech.
So when you see a Mech in game, you can have one too. Just start as a Gunner and become an Aethertech.
News: The shape and color of the mech is based on the cypher key that you equip, not surprisingly.
Since we now get a very advanced weapon and armor as we ascend, we don’t always bother to equip the loot or quest rewards that we get along the way as we level. But here are a couple of examples of Mechs you get at about level 20.
As you can see, the two mech styles are just color variations, one in green and the other in “Rust”. I’ll be watching for more styles as I level up. I assume that if you get a style you really like, you can “Remodel” a later style to an equal or earlier style just like any piece of gear. I assume you remodel the Cypher Key weapon to move the style.
