Sometime during this year, apparently, the Mystic class was completely changed. Turned on it’s head actually.
The biggest issue from my point of view is that the Thrall of Protection, a tank for solo leveling, was changed from level 4 to level 50. So you no longer have a tank to use during solo leveling.
This is a severe quality of life change as far as I’m concerned.
Basically the entire class skills have been turned on it’s head.
Skills that you get when you were level 60, you now get when you are level 4. So instead of getting Thrall of Protection so you can solo easily, you now get Boomerang and Contagion, which are AOE skills that were added with the level 60 update a few years ago.
Here are the skills as they appear now.
The Thrall of Vengeance that you get at level 18 is essentially a Totem with a limited lifetime that stands in a fixed place and does ranged attacks. While it looks like something ripped out of Ghostbusters, it’s not that effective a tool for soloing since it has a limited time and stands in one place.
The Thrall of Life is an AOE heal totem with a long cool down.
The Thrall of Wrath is a very powerful, but very short lived attack booster which is of most use in dungeons as an opener against bosses. But now we get it at level 38 as before. But Again, Thrall of Protection, which is useless in Dungeons since it’s not easily controlled when your party has a tank party member, is not available to level 50, which means that it’s no longer available to solo level below level 50.
This whole set of changes are an issue for leveling Mystics since the best way to level from 1-65 currently is to use only Orange “Story Quests” and “Vanguard Requests” which give great XP. Zone quests no longer give any reasonable XP. Dungeon wait times are not reasonable at lower levels.
I’m no longer a big fan of Tera since they are concentrating on higher level dungeons and gear. Unlike Wow, Tera is concentrating on the opposite of Stat and Item Level Squishes. They don’t seem to mind that the numbers are all exploding. Rather than doing PvE content and adding levels, they are just adding higher level dungeons and gear.
There is an upcoming release of an Elin Gunner. Hurray for all those Elin fans out there.
