Final Fantasy XI Discount Makes No Sense

The Final Fantasy Eleven game is having a Discount. For 30 days you can try the game for a discount if you are a Final Fantasy Fourteen player.

This makes no sense. In fact the service fees for FFXI make no sense.

Let’s compare:

FFXIV purchase and service fees:

So, $60 to purchase and $14 / mo with 40 characters per data center. Free travel among all servers on a data center means there is no issue with only 8 characters per server.

Final Fantasy Eleven Service Fees

Compare this with Final Fantasy Eleven service fees:

So for FFXI, it’s $12/mo with no discounts for longer times and $1 /mo for EACH CHARACTER. So if you have say a dozen characters, so you can try a lot of the jobs. There are 16 advanced jobs, but let’s say you just want to try 12 of them. That is $24 / mo. That’s a lot to spend for a game that was released in 2002, or more than twenty years ago.

Conclusion

  • FFXIV has a free trial, with restrictions, but unlimited time to try the game.
  • FFXIV requires a purchase, but then gives you lots of character slots for $12 / mo when paid each 90 days.
  • FFXI has a 30 day DISCOUNT for a limited time, if you are a FFXIV player.
  • FFXI has no free trial.
  • FFXI is likely to cost you about twice as much to play as FFXIV on an on-going basis. There is no discount for paying 90 or 180 days in advance.

This all makes no sense to me. I’m not clear why the costs are identical or less for FFXI and why FFXI does not have an unlimited free trial.

I guess I won’t be trying FFXI any time soon.
