Recently I’ve found three Private Servers for Tera. If you are an MMO buff and if you have nostalgia for Tera, or if you’ve never tried it, you might find these interesting.
All of these are free of course, and they take donations for benefits. All but one provide free “Premium Buff and Bennies” such as a flying mount and Town/Village Teleport Tome, and all are easy to install. In some order they are:
Tera Classic. They just had a security breach. Not sure if they are up and running after that yet. The early Tera Experience. Starting in the Island of Dawn and with no level 70 boost – at least not gifted at the start. So this is Tera Old School and you can expect from the title.
Tera Agaia. An advanced server with a level 70 boost, and you get a level 70 set of gear as soon as you use the boost. The Story has been trimmed – maybe like some of the later releases of Tera. Very reliable. But only Three Character slots built in and no clear way to buy more, although they say so.
Tera Starscape. By far the most fun of the list here. Gives you eight character slots, a level 70 boost and then a 20 min run through the Velika Banquet gives you level 70 gear for your journey.
DDOS and Breaches
So, shortly after I tried these servers in late July, DDOS attacks began and didn’t let up for more than a week. Also Classic was Breached. I’m not sure they know who was behind the DDOS or Breach attacks. There was speculation that Kakao Games was behind it, but Krafton actually most recently owned Tera, so that makes more sense. DDOS the private servers rather than taking them to court for copyright? Well seems like a waste of time for a game that has not been active for a few years.
I played for several hours yesterday on Tera Startscape and had no problems. So looks like the nonsense is over. I’ll try Classic later and see how it looks.
Tera Classic
The Early Tera experience starting in the Island of Dawn. I tried this and it works fine. But for a Private server I expect some benefits. If you want the “classic” experience then this might be your ticket. I played up to about level 15 or so on a character. Started on the island of dawn and then moved onto Lumbertown.
They seem to have recovered from their Data Breach and are taking care. I’ll give them a try after I post this to see how they are doing.
I didn’t get far enough along to see about Fashion Coupons and Costumes.
Tera Agaia
Your typical Boosted private server experience. A later version of Tera, starting in Step Stone Isle. Usually I just boosted my character to 70 before starting the Step Stone Isle quests, and for this server, you get a set of gear right off the bat in your mail and are good to go.
I compared the “off the bat” gear with the gear that you get from doing the Velika Banquet and the Banquet gear is actually not as good as the “Off the Bat” gear, so no reason to spend 20 min or so to get the Banquet Gear.
The main story quests have been shortened as in later releases of Tera. But all the zones are playable. The Story quests have been converted to zone quests and some have pointer quests in Velika and some don’t.
The downside of this server is that you only get 3 character slots. “Well the original Tera Experience only gives you Two!” was a reply I got in the support Discord when I asked. They said you could donate to get more slots, but Two things. Not clear I wanna donate to a Russian Server – not sure but it seems like it’s Russian. Just what payment service would I trust to give them? And when I looked around it was not clear how to do that. Their shop did not have “Character Slot” or anything like it available.
In the recent DDOS events and outages, these folks were untouched. So I played here while the other servers recovered. All of that seems over at this point.
Here’s an example of the level 70 boost gear. It’s all shiny gold, for all classes.
Another downside of Agaia servers is that the drops are trimmed way way back. There are no Fashion Coupons for outfits. They expect you to shell out real money to buy their coin to get Costumes.
Tera Starscape
By far the best Tera Private Server I’ve found. Reliable – now that the DDOS has stopped. and a good boosted experience.
You get a 70 boost right away and can use it on Stepstone Isle. Or wait until later if you like. I played several classes without boost for a while. Starting in about the level 50 areas, the level 70 no longer helps you much so to have a boosted experience beyond that point you need to get the level 70 gear.
To get the level 70 gear, you need to do the first few Apex quests of the Velika Banquet, which takes about 20 minutes. The whole APEX quest line take about an hour and a half, so it might be worth while once, but there are no rewards beyond the first 20 min or so to get the gear.
Fashion Coupon drops are frequent enough to get costumes. But the problem is that the Smart Boxes don’t preview so even with lots of web research you aren’t sure what you are getting. Of course they want you to buy coin with real money for costumes and have a DressUp dialog to help you preview your choices, but there is no dressup shop for Fashion Coupons.
The server is reliable and the trimmed story quests are available in the zones, so you can visit the sisters and help them make up in Pora Elinu, and clear out the Eldritch Academy. I’ve done most of the level 60 Argon “end game” quests and well as the newer Fate of Arun quests and they are all there.
So with Eight Character slots, a Boost and reliable play, Starscape is my choice.
